How the dome is calculated
A dome is the top half of an ellipsoid. For every block, the generator measures how far its centre sits from the dome's vertical axis and from the base, scales those distances by the radius and the height, and keeps the block when the combined value falls inside the shell. Setting the height to exactly half the diameter produces a true half sphere; anything else stretches or squashes the curve while keeping it perfectly symmetrical.
Choosing a shape
- Shallow (height ≈ diameter ÷ 3) — observatory and rotunda roofs, quick to build, low on materials.
- Half sphere (height = diameter ÷ 2) — the classic dome; works on almost any round tower.
- Tall (height ≈ diameter) — cathedral and onion domes; add a lantern or spire on top.
Building it from the ground up
- Build the base circle on the wall or floor and mark the four compass points.
- Work up one layer at a time; each ring is slightly smaller than the last.
- Use the repeat hint where consecutive rings match to save re-checking the plan.
- Close the crown last — on wide domes it may be a single block or a small 2x2.
