Making big walls interesting

A single block type over a large surface reads as flat no matter how good the shape is. The fix is a repeating pattern with a low contrast: two blocks of the same family — stone and cobbled stone, or two shades of concrete — placed in a regular arrangement. From a distance the eye sees texture, not a pattern.

Choosing a pattern

  • Checkerboard and random mix — natural stone, castle walls, dungeon floors.
  • Stripes and brick bond — town houses, warehouses, anything that should look built rather than carved.
  • Diagonal, diamond, chevron — feature walls, floors in halls, banners of colour. Use them on one surface, not everywhere.

Seeded randomness

The random mix uses a seeded generator, which means the same seed always produces the same wall. That is what makes the pattern shareable: send the link and the other person sees the identical arrangement, and reloading never scrambles your work-in-progress.
